I don’t know about you but it seems like every other kitchen these days is using a white subway tile. Let me tell me you before I get deep into this post that I don’t hate this classic style at all! They definitely have a special place in my heart for how clean they look and they’re always an affordable option. But after you visit a few tile stores you’ll begin to see that there are so many more beautiful and still affordable options. If you stick with ceramic or porcelain you should be able to find a great backsplash for about $8-15 a sq foot.

For Project Allanbrooke we went with a very regal Arabesque ceramic pattern for their small backsplash in their kitchen. We wanted something very clean looking but not typical. I am thrilled with the result! It adds some visual interest while also being very neutral and to not compete with other elements in the space. The house is situated in a well established neighbourhood so the arabesque fits in quite well!

All of these shapes are classic and simple but have a bit of added interest because of their shape.

Another thing to keep in mind is your grout colour. This can greatly impact the overall vibe of the backsplash.

I love that a small detail like grout colour can really make a huge difference in “dressing up” your tiles.
